Mounty for NTFS is a NTFS for Mac free software to make NTFS drive write support on your Mac. However, Apple does not enable it by default. OSX Mountain Lion does have built-in support for NTFS, and it can read and write.

Mountain Lion 10.8.3 already has native write support for the NTFS. But not to worry, you don’t have to install any third party drivers to enable this. If you have noticed, Mac OS X doesn’t support writing onto NTFS disks. OS X has always been able to read NTFS drives, but tucked away in Mac OS X is a hidden option to enable write support to drives formatted as NTFS (NTFS stands for New Technology File System and is a proprietary file system format for Microsoft Windows). Enable Write Access to NTFS Drive on Mac. This will allow you to fully read and write files on your NTFS drive on Mac. Replace Name with the label of your NTFS drive.
